Press Release for "Balance" 2003
Joshua Barber's Exhibit "Balance" opens at The Barber Gallery

Richmond, VA –March, 2003. Weathered paper. Stark lines. Colors so lustrous they leap from the frame. Joshua Barber combines these elements to create striking and emotive images in his series "Balance," on display at The Barber Gallery from April 25 through May 2.

"Balance" is the first Richmond show for Joshua, son of renowned maritime artist John M. Barber. The series is the culmination of a concept begun four years ago, when Joshua first perceived how simple human interactions, distilled into minimal line drawings, reveal the most poignant human emotions of love and separation. Shimmering bronze and holy symbols lend his figures the aura of ancient icons.

Joshua holds a B.F.A. in Design and is currently employed in Richmond as a designer and animator at Landis Productions LLC. He returned to Richmond two years ago from Bristol, England, where he displayed his work at Barista's Gallery and OnCoffee.net, a coffee shop/gallery on the famed Christmas Stairs. The exhibit opens to the public with a "Meet the Artist" reception on Friday, April 25 2003 from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Barber Gallery at 5812 1/2 Grove Avenue.
